My Review of the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 Lens

So to conclude this review, we gave the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 lens a 45.5/50 and our Highly recommended rating

THE FINAL WORD: If you’ve recently converted to the mirrorless system of Sony – specifically the A7 series and you need a lens in the 50mm range, the Sony Zeiss 55 f/1.8 is an optically excellent lens with very few but really important considerations, – on the upside we have killer build and optics, fast and accurate autofocus, weather resistance and an included lens hood – the two major downsides are price – which is considerable at $1,000 and a biggie for a max f/1.8 aperture lens – and that fact that there really isn’t another native FE lens out there in the 50mm range… At least not at the time of this review. Now, if you desire this focal length on your A7, then you’re kind of stuck with a $1,000 bill to get it, sure there’s the A-Mount 50mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8, but you’ll have to buy an adapter to make it work with your A7 – but that’s certainly a cheaper alternative especially for something that’s generally inexpensive as a “nifty fifty”- just keep in mind that neither 50mm Alpha lens is in the same league optically as this Zeiss…
